Have you noticed that your skin is not looking as youthful as it used to? It’s an unfortunate fact of life that after you reach a “certain age” that you start feeling like your skin is not as smooth as it was and there are fine lines that have begun to crop up around your mouth and eyes that never used to be there.
It doesn’t seem fair that, after spending years fighting acne, you went directly from worrying about pimples to worrying about wrinkles.
But fortunately, we have more tools available to us than our mothers had so here’s the low-down on skin care for aging skin.
Most women fall into the trap of believing what the TV ads tell them about anti-aging skin care creams. Even though the ads will tell you differently, non-biased clinical testing has proven that the most skin improvement these creams can offer is only about 10%. This is not enough noticeable change for most women.
Don’t get me wrong, moisturizers are necessary to keep the skin hydrated. Hydrated skin is smoother skin. But skin care for aging skin requires you to take further steps.
As our skin ages it loses its natural ability to exfoliate the outer skins cells which is what causes the dull, lined appearance. By removing the outer skin layers you will improve your skin appearance dramatically.
The best way to do this, of course is to have a chemical face peel, which will deeply remove several layers of skin. Unfortunately, this is quite expensive, painful and more invasive than most women are willing to try.
Thankfully, there are cheaper and less painful ways of exfoliating the skin. One way is to use an exfoliating skin mask followed by a deep moisturizer. These are readily available in drugstores or department stores.
Another method is to use a skin buffing system that will actually remove the outside layers a little at a time. This system consists of a small machine with a rotating brush or buffing disk. Regular use of these buffing machines can provide noticeable results.
Always make sure you follow any exfoliation procedure with a good moisturizer. You will notice a huge difference in your skin’s appearance after exfoliating. It will be softer, smoother and the fine lines will be less noticeable.
